Established in 1947, the Voice of Democracy audio-essay program offers high school students a unique platform to express their views on democratic and patriotic themes β through their own voice.
Each year, nearly 25,000 students in grades 9β12 from across the country participate, competing for more than $1.3 million in scholarships and educational incentives.
π° National First Place: $35,000 scholarship
(Paid directly to the recipientβs American university, college, or vocational/technical school)
π Other National Awards: Scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $21,000
π State-Level Winners: Each VFW Department (state) first-place winner receives at least $1,000
